ACUPUNCTURE
WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture is a lbrm of Traditional Chinese Medicine that has been practiced for over 4000 years as one of the main therapeutic methods to restore health. Acupuncture has achieved international recognition as a valuable tool modality for managing chronic pain and other conditions (World Health Organization list over 40 indications for the use of Acupuncture). Tiny needles are inserted into specific points at th
e meridians of the body to help regulate the body's energy flow and to normalize the disturbed functions of the body.
Today's scientific research shows that acupuncture plays a role in disease treatment through several ways; releasing internal analgesic and regulatory substances; normalizing functions of a disturbed organ and/or system, and promoting the body's resistance to diseases by motivating its potential capacities and enhancing its immunity.
DOES IT HURT?
After a needle has been positioned, most patients feel only minimal discomfort like numbness, heaviness, tingling or dull aching in the vicinity of the needle. Some feel no pain at all. There may be increased sensitivity in particular areas or on particular meridians relating to an energy imbalance. Disposable needles are extremely fine and made from sterile stainless steel. For individuals really afraid of needles, the needle-free therapy, Acupressure or Reflexology, is an alternative.
